Rebecca's Story

Rebecca Reznick is the founder of Hair For You Foundation. Rebecca is a two-time rhabdomyosarcoma survivor, a form of cervical cancer. She was diagnosed at age 16 and relapsed at 19.

As a junior in high school she underwent nine months of chemotherapy. At age 19, about to enter her sophomore year at Bradley University, Rebecca relapsed.  She had a total hysterectomy followed by five months of intense chemotherapy.

While going through chemotherapy Rebecca lost all of her hair twice. Fortunately, Rebecca’s family was able to afford a wig for her.  However, Rebecca realized that not all families were as lucky and that in many cases buying a wig for medical hair loss is not covered by insurance companies.  She realized the vast difference a wig made in her life while enduring chemotherapy at such a young age.

That is when she decided to start Hair For You Foundation. She wanted others to feel the deeply positive impact she felt when going through something well beyond her 16 years.  She wanted others to feel a sense of normalcy when almost nothing was “normal” about their lives.

Hair For You Foundation was founded in 2003 through Lutheran General Hospital.  In 2013, we became our own entity and granted 501(c)3 nonprofit status in order to expand our mission and help more children and teens.
